FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is it safe - will people be electrocuted?
  • The technology is very safe because there is no electricity - no electrical current - on the fence. Instead a very short burst of electrical energy in the form of a pulse is put on to the wire every 1 and a half seconds. It hurts if touched but is not dangerous.

  • Is it legal - are we allowed to have such fences?
  • The equipment has to pass very strict tests and comply with several international standards before it is certified as being safe for general use. All e-Fence equipment has this certification, plus we ensure our installations also comply with the international standards. On completion of a fence we give every customer a compliance certificate.

  • My power bill is already sky high - how much more will I be paying for this electric fence?
  • Electric security fences use as much electricity as a single 40watt light bulb. You would not notice it in your power bill

  • Can we have the fence active all the time?
  • Power levels on the fence are controlled by the keypad. If the kids are playing in the garden near the fence during the day the system can be put into low power mode. If they touch the fence it will not hurt them but if it is cut or climbed the alarm will still go off. When the kids have gone inside a simple keypad command returns the fence to full power

  • How much do these fences cost?
  • The cost will vary according to the distance involved and complexity of the installation. 4 or 8 wire walltop fences are the most common heights of installation depending on risk and structures around your fence

  • What happens when we have a power cut?
  • The energizer monitor unit has a back-up battery that will keep the fence alive for up to two days in the event of a power failure.
